Explore coral reefs and marine life with just a mask and fins
Snorkeling is the most accessible way to discover the UAE's extraordinary underwater world. No certification, minimal gear — just mask, fins, and curiosity. The East Coast reefs host turtles, rays, and vibrant coral gardens accessible within minutes of the shore.

What to Expect Snorkeling in the UAE
Snorkeling is the UAE's most accessible water activity — no certification, no lessons, and gear is available for rent at virtually every beach resort on the East Coast. Mask up, roll in, and within minutes you're face-to-face with sea turtles, reef fish, and coral gardens.
The East Coast — Fujairah, Khor Fakkan, and Dibba — faces the Gulf of Oman rather than the Persian Gulf, giving it clear water, natural reefs, and a rich marine ecosystem. Snoopy Island, a rocky outcrop off Dibba beach, is the UAE's most famous snorkel site: shallow enough for beginners but deep enough to hold resident turtles, leopard sharks, and rays.
Best Sites at a Glance
- Snoopy Island (Dibba) — UAE's most popular snorkel site; swim from shore; turtles year-round
- Khor Fakkan Bay — coral gardens, rays, and green turtles 5 minutes from the corniche
- Sandy Beach Hotel (Fujairah) — house reef accessible from the beach; excellent shallow snorkeling
- Musandam fjords — boat trips through spectacular limestone channels; wall dives, dolphins, and tropical fish
- Dibba Rock — pinnacle rising from 15m; best for confident snorkelers comfortable in open water
Safety Essentials
Never snorkel alone — always have a buddy or stay within sight of a boat or shore. A bright-coloured rash guard makes you more visible to boats. In busy areas (especially Musandam), a diver-down flag is advisable. Check swell and current conditions — the East Coast is generally calm but seasonal Kaus winds can produce choppy water.
