The UAE has one of the most active sailing communities in the Middle East. The Arabian Gulf provides a vast, sheltered body of water with consistent NE trade winds from October to April — ideal conditions for dinghy racing, keelboat cruising, and offshore passages.

Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC) is the hub of the UAE sailing scene, with over 1,000 members, weekly racing, and a full RYA course calendar. Races to Musandam — a 70-nautical-mile overnight passage through the Strait of Hormuz — are among the most spectacular offshore sails in the world.

Dinghy Racing

UAE clubs run active dinghy fleets including Lasers, 420s, Optis (for juniors), and RS series boats. Al Hamra Sailing Club in RAK hosts the UAE's most competitive dinghy racing outside Dubai. The Emirates Sailing Federation governs national competitions and Olympic development pathways.

Learning to Sail

RYA-accredited courses are available at most UAE sailing clubs. The RYA Start Sailing course (2 days) gets you on the water quickly. For offshore independence, the RYA Day Skipper practical (5 days) is the gold standard. Costs range from AED 800 (beginner course) to AED 4,500 (Day Skipper).
