The UAE is not typically thought of as a surf destination, but the East Coast — facing the Gulf of Oman and Indian Ocean — receives consistent northeast swells from October through April. The waves are predominantly beach breaks with the occasional reef influence, making them well-suited to beginner and intermediate surfers.

Fujairah and Dibba are the epicentres of UAE surfing. Several surf schools operate along the coast, and the local surf community is welcoming and tight-knit. Board rentals are available at most beach resorts.

Rules and Regulations

Surfing is permitted on designated beaches. Always check local signage and be aware that some areas may have seasonal restrictions. Modest swimwear is expected — bikinis and boardshorts are fine at water sports beaches.
