The Best Kitesurfing Spots in and Around Dubai
Dubai's Kitesurfing Scene
Dubai has one of the most vibrant kitesurfing communities in the Middle East. The combination of consistent Shamal winds (May–October), warm water, and a thriving expat community has created a passionate, year-round kite culture.
Kite Beach, Jumeirah
The beating heart of Dubai kitesurfing. Located in Jumeirah 3, Kite Beach offers:
- Designated kite zones managed by Dubai Municipality
- Multiple IKO-certified schools
- Equipment rental on-site
- Flat, shallow water ideal for learning and freeriding
- Stunning views of the Burj Al Arab
Best time: Afternoon thermals are strongest 12:00–18:00. Shamal season (May–Oct) is prime time.
Al Sufouh Beach (Secret Beach)
A local secret that's not so secret anymore. Al Sufouh sits between the Palm Jumeirah and Dubai Marina. It's narrower than Kite Beach but catches excellent winds and is far less crowded.
Note: Check that kitesurfing is currently permitted here — regulations can change.
Jebel Ali Beach
Further south towards Abu Dhabi, Jebel Ali's beach offers more space and consistent winds. Less convenient for Dubai residents but worth the trip for uncrowded sessions.
Ras Al Khaimah (Day Trip)
Just 90 minutes north of Dubai, RAK is the go-to escape when Kite Beach is too crowded. Al Hamra Village Beach has a dedicated kite school and wide, empty stretches of sand.
Tips for Kitesurfing in Dubai
- Always kite in designated zones — Dubai has clear regulations and fines apply outside permitted areas
- Check wind forecasts on Windguru, Windyty, or the iKitesurf app
- Avoid kitesurfing near beaches marked with red flags
- IKO Level 1–2 certification is recommended before riding independently
- Stay hydrated — temperatures can be extreme, especially in summer
