Planning Your Fujairah Surf Trip

Fujairah is the UAE's undisputed surf and dive capital, but most visitors drive up for the day from Dubai or Abu Dhabi — a 90–120 minute journey each way. If you want to maximise time in the water, particularly during the winter surf season (October–April), staying overnight makes all the difference. Early morning sessions before the wind picks up are the best of the day, and you'll only catch them if you're already there.

Here's the best accommodation at every budget level, organised by proximity to the top surf spots.

Al Aqah (Best for Surf + Dive Combos)

Al Aqah is the epicentre of East Coast water sports — home to Sandy Beach Hotel, Snoopy Island, and the UAE's most popular beginner surf break.

Sandy Beach Hotel ★★★

The insider choice. The UAE surf and dive community's spiritual home. Beachside chalets and hotel rooms sit 20 metres from the surf and 100 metres from Snoopy Island. On-site PADI dive centre, surf lessons, board and equipment hire. The open-air restaurant is a social hub from October to April.

  • Price range: AED 350–650 per night (chalet or room)
  • Best for: Surfers, divers, snorkellers, families
  • Drawback: Basic by 5-star standards; book early for peak weekends

Le Méridien Al Aqah ★★★★★

Best luxury option on the East Coast. Stunning beachfront resort with a private beach, multiple pools, and direct access to the Al Aqah surf break. Water sports desk organises diving and snorkelling. More of a resort experience than a surf camp, but the location is ideal.

  • Price range: AED 900–2,500 per night
  • Best for: Couples, families wanting comfort alongside water sports

Dibba (Best for Adventure Divers and North Coast Explorers)

Dibba, 10km north of Al Aqah, is the gateway to some of the UAE and Oman's finest diving, including the Dibba Rock, Musandam day trips, and Snoopy Island approaches from the north.

Radisson Blu Resort Fujairah, Dibba ★★★★★

Modern resort with a private beach, spa, and organised water sports. Close to the main Dibba diving launch points. Popular with diving groups.

  • Price range: AED 700–1,800 per night
  • Best for: Divers, families, those wanting full resort facilities

Dibba Guesthouses (Budget)

Several budget guesthouses and small hotels in Dibba town cater to backpackers and budget travellers. Basic but clean, walking distance to the beach, and very affordable at AED 150–300 per night.

  • Best for: Budget-conscious surfers and backpackers

Fujairah City (Best Value Base)

Fujairah city is approximately 30km south of Al Aqah but has a wider range of mid-range hotels and better restaurant options.

Ibis Fujairah ★★

Clean, modern, and well-priced. A reliable base for day trips to Al Aqah and nearby surf spots. No beach, but a 20-minute drive from the main breaks.

  • Price range: AED 200–350 per night
  • Best for: Budget-conscious visitors, couples

Fujairah Rotana Resort & Spa ★★★★★

Upscale Fujairah city resort with beach access. Less proximate to the Al Aqah surf break than the north coast options, but excellent facilities including a large beach area and water sports activities.

  • Price range: AED 600–1,400 per night

Practical Tips for a Fujairah Surf Trip

When to go: October–April for surf; year-round for diving.

Best arrival time: Drive up the night before for an early morning session — the first two hours after sunrise are typically the cleanest, calmest conditions.

Book early: Sandy Beach Hotel fills up months in advance for December–February weekends. If you're visiting mid-week, availability is easier.

What to bring:

  • Surfboard (roof rack or bag) or use rentals at Sandy Beach Hotel
  • Reef-safe sunscreen (essential — you'll be near coral)
  • Long-sleeve rash guard (UV protection)
  • Snorkel gear if you have your own (or rent on arrival)

Food: Sandy Beach Hotel's restaurant is convenient but limited. The coastal road between Al Aqah and Dibba has several local restaurants serving fresh fish, biryani, and Indian food. Bring breakfast snacks if you want an early start.

Prices shown are indicative and vary by season. Always check current rates and availability directly with the hotel.
