Al Hamriyah Beach, Sharjah

Located on Sharjah's northern coastline, Al Hamriyah Beach is one of the Gulf's most reliable wind sports destinations. The powerful Shamal northwesterly winds blow consistently between May and September, generating force 4–6 conditions ideal for intermediate and advanced kiters and windsurfers.

Wind & Conditions

The Shamal is a seasonal wind system that typically peaks in June and July, offering:

  • Wind direction: NW–NNW
  • Average speed: 18–28 knots (May–Sep)
  • Water state: Choppy to moderate chop — great for big air and freestyle tricks
  • Water temperature: 28–32°C in summer

Outside Shamal season (October–April), the site still sees regular 12–18 knot sea breezes suitable for windsurfing.

Kitesurfing at Al Hamriyah

The wide beach with a long unobstructed shore makes launching and landing kites straightforward. The flat, shallow water close inshore is excellent for learners, while deeper water further out allows for jumping and wave riding during stronger conditions.

Key notes:

  • Right of way rules apply — kitesurfers and windsurfers share the water
  • Avoid weekends and public holidays when the beach is crowded with swimmers
  • Check wind forecasts on Windguru or Windy before heading out

Windsurfing

Windsurfers have long favoured Al Hamriyah for its steady wind angle and open water. Several local windsurfing clubs are based in Sharjah, and gear rental is available nearby.

Getting There

Al Hamriyah is approximately 35 km north of Sharjah city centre and 45 km from Dubai via Emirates Road (E611). Paid beach parking is available on site. The nearest fuel station is 3 km south on the coast road.
