UAE recommendation: A 3.5–4.0m touring sit-on-top is the sweet spot for most UAE paddlers — manoeuvrable enough for mangrove channels, fast enough for open coastal paddling.

Sea Kayaks (Intermediate to Advanced)

Sea kayaks are long (4.5–5.5m), narrow, and fast — designed for open water crossings and coastal touring. Essential for Musandam fjord expeditions.

For UAE day trips — typically 2–4 hours — a fibreglass paddle significantly reduces arm fatigue compared to aluminium. Carbon is worth the investment for weekly paddlers.

Sizing

Paddle length depends on kayak width and paddling style:

  • Sit-on-top touring (wide kayak): 230–240cm
  • Sea kayak (narrow cockpit): 215–225cm

  • Know the tides: Mangrove channels can become very shallow at low tide — check UAE tide tables before any mangrove paddle.
