UAE Surf Season Guide: When and Where to Catch the Best Waves
When is Surfing Season in the UAE?
The UAE's surf season runs from October through April, driven by northeast swells generated in the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean. The East Coast, particularly around Fujairah and Dibba, catches these swells most consistently.
Month-by-Month Breakdown
October–November: The season kicks off with smaller, clean swells. Water temperatures begin to drop to a comfortable 25–27°C. Ideal for beginners.
December–January: Peak season. Swells are most consistent and can reach 1.5–2m on good days. Crowds are manageable at most spots. Water temperature drops to 22–24°C — a shorty wetsuit is comfortable.
February–March: Still excellent conditions with consistent swell. Tourism season peaks, so beaches can be busier. Arguably the most pleasant time weather-wise.
April: Conditions begin to ease off. Swell frequency decreases but there are still good days. Water starts warming up again.
May–September: The Gulf's summer. Flat on the East Coast. Head to the West Coast (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, RAK) for kitesurfing in the Shamal winds instead.
